Fastkids TruckCharlotte County Speedway Josh Williams may only 12 years old, but he is showing loads of potential behind the wheel of race cars and trucks. First it was go-karts, then the Bandoleros. Now it's on to bigger things for the Port Charlotte resident.
In his first race ever in the Fastkids truck series Saturday night at Charlotte County Speedway, Williams wheeled his way from the back of the pack to a third-place finish.
he started 16th and got to the front in a wreck-filled race.
Williams is the son of kevin Williams, who has excelled for years in stock cars at the Punta Gorda 3/8-mile paved oval.
kevin said Josh will drive the orange No. 6 truck at all the Fastkids races at CCS and travel to a lot of the Legends races. Legends are open wheel cars fashioned to look like old classic cars.
Winning the Fastkids feature in the 81 truck was anthony Carpi. He led all 28 laps.
Kids also dominated in the ainaugural Fast late Model race at CCS Saturday night.
Spencer Taylor, a 14-year-old driver, started his 46 car on the pole. he ran up front 94 laps, only to have his car go away from him when it counted the most.
Cody Pitts passed Taylor on a restart after a cation. he led the final six laps to grab the checkered in the 100-lapper.
Pitts is also a 14-year-old. He started racing go-karts when he was 6 years old. he won 16 straight races once at lakeland.
Pitts then moved to auburndale speedway's 4-Cylinder kids Club. he went from there to Fastkids for two years.
This year, Pitts moved up to the new Fast Late Model series this year.
It's a family affair for the Pitts family with mom, sister and brother keeping score for Fast media.
Sean Bass got second in the 100-lapper.
The Fast Media extravaganza finished with a 75-lapper for the Fastruck Pros.
The race boiled down to a dual between the 41 of Brandon Johnson, who stated pole, and the 5 of Jimmy Gill. Halfway through the race Gill got around Johnson. he hung on for the win.
The Fast Drifters also put on an exhibition.
The regular divisions return to charlotte county Speedway on Saturday night, march 18.
The Sportsman cars will run their second 50-lapper of the season. School Bus Figure 8s and Outlaw Figure 8s are also on the slate. The regular divisions -- Super Stocks, Road Warriors, thunder Trucks and Junkyard Dogs -- will also return to action beginning at 7 p.m.
